Research interests

Professor Arnberg has a research record in solidification and casting of metals, particularly light metals, aluminium and magnesium. He has specialised in experimental investigations of mushy zone properties of metals and has, together with his students, successfully measured properties such as dendrite coherency, mushy zone permeability and solidification shrinkage with high precision.

Furthermore, Lars Arnberg has a long research record on microstructure development during solidification, including studies of nucleation, grain refinement and dendritic and eutectic growth. For several years he has been engaged in research involved alloy solidification is imaged by synchrotron X-rays. Prof Arnberg has also done significant research work on casting processes such as squeeze casting, semisolid casting and high pressure die casting.

Professor Arnberg’s role as Partner Investigator within the Centre of Excellence will be to advise on the research program concerning solidification technology and to foster linkages with major research facilities in Scandinavia.
