| Research Interests and Role | |||||
| Dr Couper has broad-based management and consultant experience in Research, Development and Technical Support in the Materials Engineering field, with specific expertise in aluminium production processes, products and manufacturing. Following post-doctoral research at Monash University, Dr Couper’s career developed from a base in Europe with Asea Brown Boveri R&D followed by 20 years experience with Rio Tinto Alcan (formerly Comalco). Innovation in R&D is reflected in patent submissions relating to aluminium alloys and processing, a number of which have been pursued to full commercialisation. Dr Couper has been involved in the CAST CRC, since its inception in 1995, with roles as Industry Partner Representative, member of the Management Committee and member of the Technical Advisory Committee. University activities have included, for example, post-graduate co-supervision, GIRD & Linkage partner, Adjunct Professor since 2001, European COST program coordinator and advisor on national research programs in Norway, Sweden and Australia. Appointed Senior Research Coordinator within the Centre of Excellence for Design in Light Metals for 12 months from August 2010, Dr Couper will have accountability for some of the Centre’s administrative operations, contribute to aluminium research activities and focus on developing research initiatives with industry and other third parties. |
