Research interests

Professor Dunlop has had a 30 year research career, carried out in close collaboration with industry, encompassing relationships between processing conditions, microstructure and properties of a wide range of materials. In the last fifteen years his work has focussed upon processing and properties of light metals. Topics covered during his career include:

Superplastic deformation of metals
Phase transformations and precipitation in low alloy steels
Precipitation in stabilised austenitic stainless steels
High temperature creep of austenitic alloys
Intergranular creep cavitation and fracture
Fine scale structure and properties of high speed steels
Processing and microstructure of advanced structural ceramics
Processing, microstructure and properties of ZnO varistor materials
Processing, microstructure and properties of GaAs-based heterostructures
Improved wear resistant iron alloys
Rapid solidification processing of aluminium alloys
Microstructure and properties of aluminium alloys
New and improved magnesium alloys
