Program B: Titanium
This program consists of a range of projects targeted predominantly at the consolidation of titanium powder. These include projects on the direct consolidation of powder using equal channel angular extrusion, and sintering of compacted powder to net shape. There are complementary projects concerned with the use of hydrogen as a temporary alloying element and understanding the role of impurity elements on consolidation processes. These latter projects are a component of the CSIRO Flagship Collaboration Research Cluster through the Australian Partnership in Light Metals Research. There are two additional projects on the development of through-hardening alloys for aerospace forgings and the processing and properties of multi-functional alloys.
